Adding Guests to Microsoft Teams

How to Add a Guest to Microsoft Teams

To add a guest to a Norwich University-owned MS Team, please follow the following steps marked Creator and Invitee. Steps marked Creator are intended for the individual who is creating the initial invite, and steps marked Invitee are intended for any recipients of the invite.

1) Creator: Please navigate to the Team Management screen by selecting the three dots next to the team name and select the ‘Add member’ option.

2) Creator: Please type in the email address of the guest you want to invite to the team and select ‘Add’.

3) Invitee: Microsoft Teams will send an invite to that specified email address that looks like the following. Please select ‘Open Microsoft Teams’. If you do not already have the application installed, you will be prompted to.

4) Invitee: If the invited account is not already associated with a Microsoft account, they will be prompted upon clicking the above link. If the account is associated, then you will be notified of that and asked to sign in.

5) Invitee: Once the invited account has signed into Microsoft and downloaded teams, they will be asked to sign into Teams. Please use the same credentials just used to sign into Microsoft.

6) Invitee: After completing authentication with the email address of your Guest account, and your newly created password, you will have to configure Microsoft Authenticator on a mobile device.  You will have to get an Authenticator code every 30 days to access the Team page.

7) Invitee: Once signed into Teams, please select ‘Norwich University (Guest)’. After selecting Norwich, the user will be prompted to redeem the invite token. This is required to enter the Team.

8) Invitee: After selecting ‘Redeem’ in the previous step, the invited user will be brought to a screen asking to accept permissions. Once the Terms are accepted, the user will be able to access the team that created the initial invite.

8) Creator: Once the user has gone through the steps successfully, they will be able to access the appropriate team and have full access to files and communications.
