How to Map a Shared Drive (Norwich PC's)

Mapping A Shared Drive to a Norwich PC

  1. Please ensure that you are connected to the Norwich network, either by being on campus or by being connected via VPN (VPN instructions found here). Please open File Explorer, which can be found on the bottom of the screen. The icon should look like this:
  2. Please select ‘This PC’, which should be on the left side of the navigation pane:

  1. Under ‘Devices and Drives’, please right-click in the empty space and select ‘Add a network location:

  1. The ‘Add Network Location Wizard’ application will open in a new window. Please follow these images to access our NetLogon service (Please note: The only field that needs user input is when you need to specify the network location; all other fields are auto-filled and do not need to be changed):

  1. Before selecting ‘Finish’, please ensure that the ‘Open this network location when I click Finish’ option is selected (selected by default). Once you select ‘Finish’, a new window will automatically open that looks like this (certain files have been blurred for security reasons):

  1. To map the appropriate drive, please select the Organizational Unit (OU) you are a part of. Most faculty will be a part of ‘Academic’. If you are unsure as to what OU you are part of, please either ask your supervisor, or call Help Desk at 802-485-2456 and we will release that information to you.
  2. Once you have selected the appropriate OU, please select your department’s batch file. Selecting the .txt file will only give you the batch file commands. If you are unsure as to the difference, simply look at the ‘Type’ column and you will see either ‘Windows Batch File’ or ‘Text Document’.

  1. Once you have found your appropriate department, please double click the file. A command prompt window will open and will begin automatically mapping your drive. Once the commands have completed processing, the command prompt window will automatically close. If it doesn’t, please wait ~15 seconds after all processing has completed and then close the window.
  2. Going back to ‘This PC’, you should now see a folder labelled ‘NETLOGON’, as well as your departmental drives.

Alternate Method:

  1. An alternate method of mapping would be to type \\norwich.edu\NETLOGON\ into your Windows Search bar while connected to the Norwich network, as seen in the following image:

         2. Please hit ‘Enter’ and follow previous steps 5-9. Please note that this method will not pin NETLOGON to your Network Locations.

Users do not have permissions to edit any of these folders (Create/Remove).
