How to turn on 802.1x authentication, Windows 11

Below you will find the steps needed to turn on and configure 802.1x on Windows 11 so that you can connect to ethernet on campus.

Click your network icon in your task bar

Click the settings gear in the bottom right corner

Select Network & Internet

Select Ethernet

Select “Edit” beside Authentication Settings

Turn on 802.1x and then click Edit Configuration

Change the EAP Method to Protected PEAP

Change the Authentication Method to Secure Password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)

Click Save (you do not need to add any of the other two options)

Unplug your ethernet cable and plug it back in. You should be prompted to sign in. Select Sign in

The settings window should open to this view, select Sign in

Enter your full Norwich email address, example: jsmith1@norwich.edu (DO NOT PUT THE STU)
Enter your current Norwich password and click OK

The system will verify your credentials

You will be prompted to continue connecting, select Connect

Your Ethernet should show connected and signed in.
