iPad Hardware Distribution, returns, and requirements, June 2024

To ensure we make the most of our resources, we request that users who no longer require iPads return them. Each device carries an individual license cost, and it is essential that these licenses are utilized effectively. An unused iPad is a missed opportunity for others who could benefit from it.

Starting this Summer, departments will be responsible for any incomplete returns of iPads. Missing accessories will incur a charge of the then-going rate for accessories plus a $9.00 per incident to cover processing and shipping. Below are the costs for accessories as of June 7, 2024, and are subject to change:

  • Apple 12W USB AC adapters for 6th, 7th, and 8th-generation iPads: $19.00

  • 6th, 7th, and 8th-generation iPad cables: $19.00

  • 9th-generation iPads Apple 20W USB-C charger: $19.00

  • USB-C to Lightning cable: $29.00.

  • Apple Pencil: $79.00

  • Apple Pro Pencil: $129.00

  • Apple Pencil USB-C: $69.00

  • Apple USB-C to USB-C cable: $19.00

  • Keyboard Case, Logitech or Zagg: $129.99

  • Standard Dux Case: $69.95

The above prices are retail costs. This is not an all-inclusive list. IT reserves the right to charge departments for lost and stolen goods. Apple Pencil nibs and charger adapters will also be considered for completeness. No pricing for 10th-generation iPads is on this list. Extreme cases of wear and tear and damage are the responsibility of the employee’s department.

We now have a policy for iPad requests and purchases. Each request must include a work plan outlining the device's intended use. For devices outside the Digital Citizen Program, an annual fee of $9.00 will be added to cover Jamf licensing.

It is important to note that iPads have a limited lifespan. Once an iPad can no longer receive Apple Security updates, departments will need to purchase a new device. The IT department will incorporate the management costs of $9.00 per year for four years into the overall cost of the new iPad. Devices supported by Apple for longer than four years will have a $9/year fee charged to the department.
